broken heart

Will you love me again,
Even after we begin?
Will you hold me tight,
Even if it's not alright?
Promise me if I fall apart,
You'll fix my broken heart.
I'm shattered....
Rejecting your love.

Broken Wings

1 min read
I tried to fly on broken wings and couldn't leave the ground.
I leapt so high I touched the clouds, but then came crashing down.
We tried to love on shattered hearts, but love was already lost.
We try to fall in love again but at what cost?

An Old Prince

6 min read
"Get the horses ready,"

"But s-sir, it is- em, unadvised that you should leave the castle unescorted,"

" Am I not the prince of this grand country? I declare that I shall go as I please."

"Y-yes, your majesty..."

"Ha-ha, yes, then grab my finest horse and bring him here! Dressed in the gold and velvet saddle,"

"B-but your lordship, I-"

"At once!"

"Yes, yes, at once sir, right away."

"Dreadful man, the gold and velvet one!" Prince Jean tells at his servant as he hurries to the stables to grab the horse. "Ah, yes, that one will do wonderful," He held the noble stallion and dressed it in the fine golds of the castle.

"Your prince," he says, bowing his head and handing off the stallion.

"I shall be back by the morn, tell my brother, I was slayn' by a dragon, I'm sure he will be quite content till I return"
"Y-yes sir"

"Then I'm off. Common" Jean makes a clicking sound with his mouth and taps the sides of his horse.

" stay well, sir, maker is with you!"

Jean takes off along the long stretch of cold cobblestone, sparks flying as the stallions shoes clank against it. The salty smell of ocean water lingering throughout the air as it blows through his hair, " to see Mary Beth!" Jean yells with joy, oh how he came to love such a stubborn woman, who don't want to marry a prince? But he always wants what he can't have, being a prince and having everything you want is hard when what you really want you can't have.

"My lord," a strange horned man says, bowing his head

"Yes, sir, make it quick."

"Are you, unescorted?"

"Why yes, I am very capable of protecting myself,"

"Ah, I see yes... but what if you are faced by something more than a man? Maybe a wyvern or worse a grand dragon?"

"I shall be fine on my own, I'm just taking a short walk through the woods from here."

"Mmmm, and may I ask another question of you?"

"Yes, make it quick"

"Is that.... Pure gold? Free of all substitute metals?"

"Yes, finest saddle in the kingdom."

"Of course, that is all, your majesty."

"Then I'm off," and with at jean takes off going through a small village where many of the townspeople gather to catch a glimpse of the prince.

"Prince jean," many of the people say lowering their heads as he gallops through the village.  by sunset jean reaches the tree line and stops at a stream to let the stallion drink.

"What a wonderful day it has been. Thank you for taking me all this way, hahaha, that's a good boy." Jean says, laughing and patting the stallion on the side as he drinks.
Just then something snaps behind jean and he turns his head just slightly to peak behind him. "Hmm," jean mutters out ignoring the sound. But It comes again slightly louder and more defined than the first "who's out there?" Jean asks with no response walking to the sound and sees no sign of anything, so he then walks back and proceeds to groom the horse. What jean doesn't notice is a man positioned in a tree above him. He pulls out a stone and tosses it into the river,  jean  hears the disruption and  turns to look into the water.

"What was that," jean says "I know something is in here somewhere... hey, let go of him at once. HEY,"  jean yells as he is grabbed and forced to pull His arms behind his back. "What is this!? Do you know who I am!!? LET ME GO!" the man restraining Jean is short with dark eyes and dark black hair, and a cold smile was worn on his face as he pulls  out a knife and places it against jeans neck.

"Yes, yes, who doesn't know of prince jean?" He laughs

"Unhand me then!"

"Afraid not, can't do that, not now at least hahaha, iv already been paid can't stop now!" He laughs with a wild look in his eyes. The man ties Jean's hands to his feet and pushes him over.

"Hey, stop don't touch that!"

"What... this?"

"Hey, no leave it alone!"

"It's just a stupid horse." The man looks at Jean and runs the blade over the horse's flank, " anyways, why would I hurt the horse if I'm here for something much more..... Valuable"  he then takes off all the ordaments of gold and velvet. "That's all I need from the horse, well not that you'll be needing it anytime soon." he then hits the hoses on the side with a stick and it takes off through the woods quickly moving out of sight.

" What do you plan to do with me?"

"Nothing really I just need the rest of your valuables and I'll be on my way...."

"You've taken everything from me what else is there?! "

"Dressed like a king," he begins laughing wildly and walks to Jean's side.

"Then take it! Just let me go!"

"with pleasure," the man takes Jeans robe, crown, jewels, and anything with a hint of gold or silver, leaving Jean in nothing but a pair of boxers. "Ha-ha from riches to rubble in seconds!"

"Enough! Untie me at once!"

" Hum... no"

"Eh- do you think you defy me? I am the prince untie me!"

"Well, I see no prince, all I see is a man dressed like a dog!"

"what is this nonsense untie me now! Or I'll have your head at the foot of the queen!"

"Shh, do you hear that?"

"What?"

"How much better it sounds when you're quiet!"  The man places his foot on Jean's face and presses his face into the muddy ground, " how about a swim?"

"What!? No untie me!"

"Quiet!" He yells kicking Jean over to the water's edge "dressed like a dog, lets see if this puppy can swim!" He says pushing Jean into the water. The man laugs and walks away with much content knowing he has just possibly killed the prince himself.

"(oh no what now!? I'm going to drown if I don't do anything fast!)" Jean thinks to himself as he hits the water.

Dragons Blood

21 min read

You're sitting alone looking across a long empty table.
"No... no... no," you mutter to yourself looking across a large map of the ancient elvish city Aflam," Bless the Maker, I'm never going to find a trainer am I," you sigh. " how am I going to help with this blight if I cant even cast a simple spell?" you say in anger, slamming your hand down on the table. You then take a dagger and slowly begin crossing out places you've looked at, but then a small town catches your eye, Black Water. taking a red sting you rap the grip of the dagger and tie a phoenix feather around it. " Black Water," you say as you stab the tip of the dagger in to the table. placing both hands on the table you push away, slowly picking up everything as you walk out the door.
"olo vae" a voice yells from the back room,
" sweet dreams" you say in response to the owner of the building. You step out into the fading sunlight, looking up at the sun spilling out the colors of autumn over the vast sea of blue sky.
" oh no," you mumble to yourself as the metallic smell of blood flowed through the air " get out of the way!" you shout loudly. But everyone seemed to be locked on to the monster.
A shop owner you know by the name of Sinbad stood before a large European dragon, holding an ancient sword with the words "tsuyo" meaning strength engraved in cold the steal. A grand blade he made after a long month of looking for dragon scales, one of the strongest materials known.
" out of the way, now " he yells to his family staring up at the great beats. The dragon hovered over him, pieces of gold falling from his mouth.
The dragon pulled his head low, low enough to touch the blade with is nose. Sinbad thrashed the blade in the air with ease and cold hard steal scratched the monster across the mouth.
"cover your ears!" you shout covering your head, the beats then called out with a bone shattering noise that shakes the earth its self. Sounding like a steal fork across a chalkboard. It then reaches down and pulls the blade out of Sinbad's grip and swallows it whole, like a paler trick at a freak show.
" oh no" you say to yourself, then before thinking you reach into your bag and pull out a large book you have been carrying with you. You quickly browse
through numerous pages looking for anything that may help.
" Mae Goven," you say loudly 'well met?' You think to yourself what could that do?
"Hello elf," a voice responds to you in a deep growl "why have you interrupted my fight mage?"
" Forgive me," you say to the voice, in shock you bow your head " who an I speaking to?"
" you don't know," it asks back " have you not just addressed me in the Makers Breath?" the voice is strong and threatening. But then you then make a realization, you're not talking out loud this is all in your head. "Forgive me, who are you?" you are scared to hear the answer, you have a feeling you know who this is.
"a dragon." He snaps at you
"Maker-" you began to say
"Don't use the makers name in vain, elf" he says with strength.
"forgive me" you say pleading with the monster, a dragon is the last thing you want upset with you. "no, don't come any closer,"
The dragon was now looking at you crawling along the ground, sinking into the dirt because of the pure size of the beast. Sinbad is now starting at you as well, with worried eyes
"Do you fear me" it murmurs
"y-ou expect me to be ca-lm!?" You stutter "your a Grand devil dragon, are you not?"
"no," He growls turning his head slightly. "I'm only of 50 sweeps"

“100 years” you say to yourself " your only a baby?"
" yes elf, I am still only a dragonling"
" Whats your name.... and are you of high blood?" you ask stumbling backwards trying to put some space between you and the dragon " are you a Grand dragon?" he seems to be ignoring your questions as he moves closer, close enough to feel his breth on your skin. " whats your name?" you ask again.
"whats my name?" he growls in a loud way " is that a.... question?"
" N-No it was a demand." you say standing up to the young dragon.
He looked at you with a cold blank expression, he drew out old Japanese letters into the dirt.
"Tokage," he hissed
" Tokage, a-are you a Grand devil dragon?" you manage out, hes so close to you now. Tokage is blowing smoke in your face with every breath.
"good bye, elf" Tokage suddenly said dusting his name away with his claw,
"h-hold on why wont you answer me!," you say quickly back trying to make sense of what happening.
"Lethala," Tokage growls as he takes flight

“friend,” you think to your self, but no response comes back. He ended your conversation on such sort notice.
your looking up in awe as Tokage took to the air and left.
"What was that!" Sinbad yells "what did he say to you?"
" n-nothing. Hey let go of me put me down!” you yell with your feet slightly off the ground.
" iv know you for years,” he says with a sort of fear in his voice “ are you a mage?”
"what a strange question" you blurt out.”Put me down!” He pushes down and stands over you,
"S-Sinbad, I promise I'm not a mage!" You stutter out, trying to stand up.
"Your mother was!" He yelled. Your pulse was racing and your eyes widen out of fear. You dont really know what to say, so you stay quiet. "Only mages can talk with dragons, you know you have dragons blood rushing through their veins like hot liquid gold."
"n-no," you say under your breath, "I had no clue.... I didn't really know my mother..."
"That's right, she was some sort of spy for the king right?" He asked as if you knew, you never saw your mom much she would come and go all the time.
"I don't know..." you trail off in thought. Who was your mother really? Your father never told you she was a mage, was he a mage to?
"Fine, I believe that you don't know. But child, let me tell you this now, you are a mage by blood, whether or not you accept it is not my problem. Stay away from us kid, I don't need anymore grand dragons after my family."
"Sinbad wait!" You yell as he walks away. He can't just leave you like this! "Why would dragons come after you because of me! And how was I to know.... im sorry if iv hurt you or your family! Please answer me!"
"Dragons hate mages, " he replys sullemly, "dragons blood is never given, its taken. The power that dragon's blood gives you is dangerous and powerful. No man should have that kind of power, but here you are living and breathing with stolen blood." His tone broke and he seemed upset, almost ready to cry and he walks in to his small stone shop and closes the door.
"Stolen blood..." you say to yourself, how frightening. "So, I don't need a trainer, I guess im already a mage..." You wonder why your father never told you about this, maby he didnt know? Suddenly, your consumed in anger, you lean down and touch the ground were the dragon once stood. You take a deep breath and pick up a hand full of the dirt. There is blood mixed in with it, probably from the gash across the dragon's mouth. You then glance across the ground and see a trail of blood leading far off into the distance. There is such a shimmer in dragon's blood making it look somewhat like golden drops are all over the ground, its so beautiful you get a little distracted and calm down. You then look back at your book,

“maybe there's something here that might clear things up a little.” You turn through the pages looking for anything on dragons, you find a page titled “ Mages and there history.” the page reads:
"Dragons are strong and powerful with many magic abilities, one of the more powerful abilities being a small insight over the past and future. Dragons of high blood or grand dragons knowing more than the low blood dragons, but a dragon will never reveal unless killed. Even then after the dragon I killed the blood must be taken, purified, and consumed. The consumption of dragon's blood will give you the knowledge of the dragon, and the ability to communicate with dragons only of high blood. The taboo of killing dragons and ingesting the blood will pass down the traits (except the knowledge given) through the family tree, until ended by someone from the direct blood line by killing another dragon and repeating the process of consuming the blood."
You now thought about this, if you keep the line going you can join the mages right now and help the people. But keeping the dragon's blood could unintentionally kill many more, even the ones you’d like to keep safe most of all. You ponder your choices, the lives of the village or the lives of the world... the answer seemed obvious, right in front of you asking for it. But then you thought about, what would your family say?
Lúthien, your father, would have told you to think about the ones you love before you make a big decision, because their voices Will always wispier the answers to you. So taking your fathers advise you decide to think about it a little longer. You lay back and think about your family. Your grandfather was wise, an Oracle who seemed to know it all. He would always say that,

The most amazing things are born through mistakes, but the most dangerous things are made through choices that seemed perfect at the moment. Your grandmother would sing you a song, with startling yet serious lyrics.
"The Herald of death sing to those who listen to your cold voice, to give them all answers, the herald of death listen!"
They were so much wiser than you, they had years of knowledge behind their words, but what they told you was always so complex and almost said with a sort of riddle. They wanted you to know what they knew but at the same time they wanted you to find it out for yourself weather or not you would ever figure them out. So you listen carefully, quietly, and overall in total peace.
You lay in the cold dirt under the now dark sky, counting the stars.
"Listen," a cold voice says " what are you looking for?"
"An answer," you say solemnly
"What do you want to do?" It asked with a sort of peace
" I think I should," you stop and think for a moment " join the mages... just maby the life of many can make the death of a few okay"
"Hmm," it stopped and pondered your answer " I asked what you want to do, not what you think you should do."

I feel so confused, so much of my life has been hidden from me....” you say with a slight quiver in your voice. You can feel your emotions swelling up. “but maybe that’s okay, maybe its better to find things out on your own.... making your own choices make you stronger in a way, you can actually feel the consequences of what you have done, and then try to make them better,”

“So, what do you want to do?”
You lay on the ground now smiling to yourself, you know what you want to do, its going to be hard fixing something you didn’t brake, but it will be better than it was before it was broken.
" I want to save the people I love," you know this is what you really want. " That's all there is, I have to protect the ones I have now"
"Good, I'm very pleased to see you have turned out strong." This voice is close, but yet so far out of reach. Who is this, why do you know this voice you have never heard?
"Who are you?" You ask quietly, this could be your mothers voice,
" The stars are beautiful tonight." It ignored your question completely. Guess you don't need to know now, it's not really a big deal you have lived years without it you can live with never knowing. You take a deep breath and push yourself up off the ground.

It really is beautiful out,” you say with no reply.
"Thank you." You say to yourself. You're so glad your father was right, they do listen. With that you walk to Sinbads shop and knock on the door.
" Sinbad.. You still open?" It's quiet for a while, but you have time and will easily wait here all night if needed. The door then swings open and you look up to see Sinbad looking at you with a stern expression.
"What do you want kid, I thought I told you to leave." He looked Serious
" I need a sword, like a strong one" you say, also ignoring questions now.
"Ha-ha, kid you probably can't even hold a dagger. There is no way I'm giving you anything." With that Sinbad slamed the door. So assuming he means business, you don't knock again.
"Maybe there's something in here..." you say pulling out the large book again, because apparently you're a mage already you might be able to cast something simple. You flip through the pages once more looking at the "Self Defense" pages. "Aha," you say to yourself "right here, so the spell is galad hathel... That's broadsword in the ancient Elvish right?" You ask yourself " yeah, definitely. Okay, let's try this" you now take a deep breath and hold out your hands as if you already holding a blade. " galad hathel." Light broadsword you think to yourself.

At the breath of those simple words a beam of flaming blue light began to fester in your hands. You wanted to let go, it was somewhat like a fire, but it seemed to have a sort of life to it as it danced around in your palm. The light then stretched out through your hands and turned into a ghostly hot flame shaped like a blade. It was a sword alright, but it was light and didn't seem strong enough to cut through anything, let alone the scales of a grand dragon. You held the blade high and swung at a post in the ground expecting the blade to snap, but as you reached the post the sword lit up once more becoming too hot to handle. You want to let go so badly, but you know you can't, because you need to do this. And the burn and pain were worth it, the blade Heated up just enough to cut clean through it.

"Wow," you say to yourself " so this isn't just useless" you smile to yourself, forgetting about the pain your hands are in at the moment. But the celebration was short lived "I guess I'm off" you say turning to the blood trail left by the grand dragon you talked to earlier, you might as well start walking now. And with that you walk through the night following the golden trail, only stopping to check and make sure the sword wasn't burning a hole through your bag.
At sunrise you come across a cave that leads to a valley in the mountain, you figure maybe the dragons den is on the other side. So you walk in slowly, holding the blade ahead of you like a flashlight. You keep walking and walking and finally you see the light at the end of the tunnel. Rushing through you, reach the end and look out at an open field of charred grass.

"Mae goven" you say loudly, hoping the dragon is near,
" What do you want elf, you have no right being here, " Tokage grows in a low tone.
" I need something from you," you say " something only you can give me."
" There is nothing I will give and nothing shall to be taken." he snaps, " I assume that you want something that I have, something we both have in common." He seems to know what you want already. “you want my blood.”
" Yes," you say, reaching back you grab hold of the hot blade. " What was started years ago must end at me"
" My blood is nothing that can be taken, you don't have the guts and let alone the strength to kill me!” You swing the blade in front of you, letting Tokage feel the heat coming of the fire that still burned strong.
"I see you have accepted that you are indeed a mage. But who is to slay a grand dragon? Certainly not you, don't test me elf, I'm not in the mood to play knights." He then grabbed at your blade as if to eat it like the first, but the blade touched his mouth and with a great screech Tokage shook his head back a forth letting blood stream on to the burnt ground.
" A beast whom spits fire all day can't take a little heat?" You say mocking Tokage. He then turned and picked himself off the ground and began to fly off, but suddenly he turned back with his head held low, his belly lights up along with the markings along his body. He let out a low pitch growl and puffed out a ball of flames. You step far to your left to avoid the smoldering fire ball, the flames hit the ground and crawl along the surface eating up the remaining grass.
" Too little, too late," Tokage snaps calling out with another bone chilling screech. He then hits the ground with his back legs first, just inches away from you. The shock from his feet knocks you to the ground and Tokage picks you up in this mouth and tosses you to the side. " I told you, your not strong enough elf. How do you expect to help anyone in your life if you can't help yourself? Tell me why you think you can face me! "
You lay on the ground looking up at the pale blue sky, just listening to Tokage yell at you.

" I haven't decided yet" you say smiling. Tokage then looked at you in dismay, and you still smiled at him. “I don’t know why either.”
" Then why are you smiling you have no better chance killing me lying on the ground than you did before. " He yells at you moving closer. You then pick yourself up off the ground.

" I have already seen death, many times in my life have the people I loved been killed at the hands of scaly beast like you. I've become close to so many people and I can't let you end me here" you say staggering back a few steps holding the blade tight, you ache all over from hitting the ground and your own sword is cutting into your hands, but you know the pain cant last forever. “I am going to kill you hear or die trying,”
"Lethal" Tokage yells ending the conversation. He lowers his head and blows smoke out of his mouth.
"Friend" you say squaring up to him as he jumps at you.
The metallic smell of blood flows through the air as a sharp blade touches the neck of a great beast, and as sharper claws touch your skin. A blue light flashes and a pain rakes through your body and the song of the herald of death touches the ears of two.

"I stumbled into faith and thought, God this is all there is?" you sing to yourself as you lay on the ground, breathing slowly. It feels like the word if falling around you, swallowing you up as it caves in on itself. Your so cold yet the ground is so hot, burning as you lay still. You look to your side, to see Tokage, lying next to you, taking short breaths with the gold blood flowing around you both.
"Mae Goven...." you whisper
"Makers breath...." Tokage says quietly " I'm not scared, I'm not scared of death...." he says in a somewhat different way than before, the strength had left his voice. He lays next to you rolling over to the other side, letting you see his the face. Tokage stayed still blowing out fire with every breath he takes.
"What was my mother like," you ask Tokage " was she strong?" He lay next to you, but he didn't answer you "Tokage." You say
"Does it matter, does it really even make a difference whether or not you know?" He grows " she was strong, then all the kings, and the gods, began colliding on a backdrop of blue...." he grows quiet, finishing the next line of the song.
"I'm sorry." You say
"I-it's not in my nature to feel sorrow, or gr-grief. But even monsters," he takes a deep breath "can change...." with that the light left his eyes, the last breath was pulled from his chest and he lay still and cold.
"Lethala...." you say closing your eyes, letting the world around you go black, taking your last breath.
Your sitting along a long table, in some far place far, far away from anything. But your not alone, a table of five cheers and laughs, singing songs and telling stories of simpler times.
" I told you they do whisper the answers!" Lúthien laughed "It's just more complicated than they should be!"
"But you can't listen to them all the time!" Your grandfather said standing up at the table. " The most perfect things are made by imperfect people making their own choices."
"He's right," your grandmother says happily "the herald of death sings to those who can't make choices on their own, she knows the useless are useless!"
"The maker doesn't make mistakes! The maker makes everyone with a purpose! Even those who die young have at least opened the eyes to many that life is easily taken away!" Your mother says strongly "if the maker made mistakes then many things would be ever so out of place!"
"The only mistake was your husband..." Your grandfather laughs " so many things wrong with that one!"
"Dad!" Your father says with a wine in his tone laughing as well.
" We all have our flaws!" You state " except me, I'm absolutely flawless" you tease.

Everyone seemed so happy together, laughing at everything with never a care. Except one thing was still on your mind. You guess you both died then, you died the death of a knight and Tokage the death of a low blood at the hands of an elf.
"fate is a funny thing isn't it?" Your mother laughs " the only question is do you make it happen or was that how it was always meant to be."
